MAKING INVITATIONS
Pattern 1
Would you like to.. ? - used to invite someone to do something
Pattern 2
Do you want to.. ? - another way of saying "Would you like to..?"
Examples:
ACCEPTING INVITATIONS
Pattern 3
I'd like to.. / I'd like that. - expressing that you are accepting someone's invitation
Pattern 4
I'd love to.. - a more positive way of saying "I'd like to.."; could mean "I would really like to.."
Examples:
Would you like to go for a walk after dinner?
I'd like to do that! / I'd like that!
Would you like to eat lunch together?
I'd love to! Let's try that new pizza restaurant nearby.
DECLINING INVITATIONS
Pattern 5
I'd love to, but.. - a polite way to say "no" to an invitation; used to decline because you are busy at that time
Pattern 6
I'm really sorry, but.. - another way of declining; used to apologize because you can't accept the invitation because you have to do something else or you don't feel like it
Examples:
Do you want to visit the park this weekend?
I'd love to, but I need to clean the house. My parents are coming.
Do you want to play tennis tomorrow?
I'm really sorry, but I want to take a rest.
