FIRST DAY IN MELBOURNE

My First Day in Melbourne

Icon_Mike

I arrived in Melbourne on a Saturday morning in June. I decided to explore the city right away. I first caught a train into the city center, and got off at Bourke Street. I then walked around the streets looking at all the shops, cafes, and restaurants. I was walking for an hour when I suddenly realized I was lost. I bought a map to find my way back to Bourke Street. I walked to a Parliament station and caught a train to Flinders Street train station. Then I walked along Elizabeth street, and finally I was back at Bourke street.

Questions:

1. What did he do right after arriving in Melbourne?

2. What did he see while walking around the streets?

3. What did he buy to find his way back to Bourke street?

LET'S UNDERSTAND! 📚

I. Time and sequence adverbs: first, then, afterwards

1. Use these words to describe the order of events:

    Example:

  • first

  • next / then

  • afterwards

  • finally

2. Other phrases similar to afterwards include after that and after + noun.

    Example:

  • The next morning, you are free to visit the market in Otavalo.

  • Afterwards / After that / After lunch, we visit the Peguche waterfall.

3. We describe the process, we can also use ordinal numbers to describe each stage (first, second, third, fourth, fifth, sixth). We can use finally for the last part of the process. We usually use commas after these words.

    Example:

  • First, turn the machine on.

  • Second, take a cup.

  • Third, choose water or juice.

  • Finally, press the green button.
