Comment Adverbs

  • Comment adverbs often apply to the whole sentence and are mots frequently used in front poisitions, although they can also be used at the end of the sentence and in other positions.
  • At the beginning and end of sentences, we usually separate them from the rest of the sentence by a comma in writing or by intonation in speech.

    Example:

  • Apparently, the company's decision to diversify its portfolio was a calculated move based on extensive market analysis.

▪️ Comment adverbs which show judgement usually follow the subject, although they can be put in front position for emphasis.

    Example:

  • She bluntly stated her opinion, not mincing her words in the face of controversy. or "Bluntly, she stated ..." to emphasize 'bluntly.'


▪️ If comment adverbs apply to only part of the sentence, they can be used in other positions.

Viewpoint Adverbs

  • Some adverbs are used to make clear what viewpoint we are speaking form; that is, identifying what features of something are being talked about:

    Example:

  • Financially, investing in real estate has proven to be a lucrative endeavor for many.

  • While the brothers share a resemblance physically, their disparity in personalities is striking.
