23-EE-You Can Pay As You Go

Staff

Hi. Fitness World. Jane speaking. How can I help you?

Melly_Happy Icon

Melly

Yes, I'd like some information about your gym memberships, please.

Icon_Staff

Staff

Sure. We have two different types of memberships: You can pay as you go, where you can pay $5 every time you want to use the facilities and $5 for every class you attend. Then, there's a monthly plan where you can pay a flat rate of $45 per month. With the monthly plan, you can come in as often as you want and go to as many classes as you want. Both plans require an annual fee.

QUESTION

1. What are the two plans mentioned by the staff?

2. What are the benefits of the monthly plan compare to the other one?

LET'S UNDERSTAND! 📚

Modals of Ability

  • To express ability, you can use 'can', 'be able to', and 'could'

    Example:

  • I can swim well.

  • She is able to speak two languages.

  • Marco could speak Chinese when he was a child.

"There" as a subject

  • We usually use 'there' as a dummy subject with a noun or a noun phrase and the verb 'be'. It is often used to introduce new information or say that something exists. We put what we really want to talk about after the verb.

  • There's a coffee shop next to the train station.

  • There was a man waiting outside.

🔺 We can use 'there' with any tense of 'be', including 'modal verb + be'

  • There's been an accident.

  • There might be a problem.

🔺 We tend to use 'there' with indefinite noun phrases. An indefinite noun phrase uses the indefinite article (a/an) or no article. You can also use some/any/no. We don't use 'the' or a proper noun (the name of a person or place)

  • There's a shop on that road. | There's the shop on that road.
